Is there Segregation between Nerds & Blerds?

I always thought that being a nerd was an inclusive thing. I grew up in the 80's where movies like Revenge of The Nerds allowed a clear definition of what a nerd was and there was no segregation. You were either a jock, or a nerd, or a talented hybrid that was good in sports but also loved nerdy things like Star Wars and video games. Today, you have this label as a Blerd which is a Black Nerd. Now I am okay with this label as it has some flavor and swag to it. But I think its the white elitist nerds that are really painting this segregationist narrative online. These elitist have a powerful voice on the internet, they will often get shows canceled, and gaming developers questioning if they should put out a game with a black for female protagonist. Anything that is not white straight male, they slam. Again, I grew up on Will Smith's Independence Day, and Samuel L. Jackson's Mace Windu. These were Black super-stars playing major roles amongst aliens. Maybe we just didn't worry about race then. We just wanted to see representation on the big screen. Or it could just be that social media has now given everyone a voice and we are able to absorb things that were hidden from us 20 years ago. What are your thoughts?
